“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” Henri Matisse
How does one depict the essence of “floral” in a visually compelling way? How does one communicate the abundance of natural colors and textures florals possess without relying on imagery?
In an attempt to capture the essence of what “floral” means, a set of “new florals” was created. Using geometric shapes as containers and imagery of bacteria, of all things, as content, a different kind of floral arrangements was born.
To me, bacteria – which exist in almost every living being – convey the idea of florals perfectly. The unending range of colors and organic textures that bacteria possess, in a way, are the exact characteristics that make flowers “floral”. The reduced geometric shapes which hold them only accentuate the captivating and chaotic beauty of bacteria.
