Solidarität

2024-2025

Different collections of items from family members who lived in East Germany (GDR, 1949-1990) were used as an inspiration for this project.

Fascinated by ordinary items produced under socialism with vastly different aesthetics and purposes, I reinterpreted and processed them to create a new visual composition.

Utilizing fabric as canvas and experimenting with risograph, I created a pair of curtains and a set of postcards to display the different visual combinations.

The project leaned in on “serendipity”, where coincidence played an important role in the making and production.

Materials

Donation stamps from organizations from East Germany (ex. for workers, women and youth), family photos taken with Practika cameras, patterns from ordinary household items (ex. plates, cups and textiles)
